The JD Young Hotel is situated next to the market square in the center of Harleston.

Harleston is a quaint, traditional market town located in the heart of
East Anglia. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book, it is a town full of historic and traditional buildings with every amenity you could wish, including a market every Wednesday.

How to find us:

Harleston is only 2 hours from London, from the A14 traveling towards Ipswich, a few miles past Stowmarket is a junction for the A140, take the A140 towards Norwich, after about 13 miles you will come to round about at Scole, you need to take the third exit (right) onto the A143 towards Bungay, Beccles & Lowestoft. About 6 miles along the A143, you will come to a small round about, the first exit (left), will lead you up a hill and into Harleston, follow this road through into Harleston where you will come to the Market Place (shown above), the JD Young Hotel over looks the Market place and is easy to locate. Parking can be found towards the rear of the Hotel along with the Hotel Reception.

Tourist Information:

Harleston is situated in the heart of East Anglia and close to the main routes between Ipswich and Norwich, the A140 and Bury St. Edmunds and Great Yarmouth, the A 143. It lies close to the River Waveney, and the local area boasts several lakes where a fishing enthusiast can be sure of a good day out - or perhaps sailing or windsurfing is more to your taste. The area also provides many good walks and the Angles Way lies through Harleston on its way to Bungay and the Coast.

Centrally situated to reach many of East Anglia’s many attractions, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft are a 40 minute drive away and Norwich with its fine historic buildings and Castle only 25 minutes drive to the north. Harleston is also within easy reach of the Broads and North Norfolk Coast.

Locally there are also several Golf Clubs.

  • The nearest is Bungay Golf Club, 8 miles from us. This is an Inland Heath land Course with 18 holes. Visitors are welcome and should contact the Golf Shop prior to their visit.   • Diss Golf Club lies 9 miles away and is an 18 hole golf course the contact number is 01379 641025 or e-mail scc.dissgolf@virgin.net
  • Beccles Golf Club is 12 miles from us and is a 9 hole course on Common Land, and provides visitors with Pay & Play facilities. Contact number is 01502 712244.

The nearest train service can be found at Diss Station, which runs trains to London Liverpool Street and Norwich every half hour. There are also several very reliable local Taxi Services.
